IAK China Cultural Journey · Third Stop: Beijing

Cultural Legacy and Living Heritage · From the Alps to the Forbidden City

The IAK delegation and young scholars explored Beijing — the heart of Chinese civilization and the capital of a thousand years.

From the Forbidden City to the Temple of Heaven, and onward to the Great Wall, each step felt like walking through layers of history and spirit. It was a journey of awe and learning — a living classroom of culture and continuity.

We were deeply honored to be welcomed by Professor Xiong Chengyu,

Dean of the National Institute of Cultural Development at Tsinghua University, who, despite his busy schedule, met with us to share his insights on international cultural exchange and transmission. His dialogue with the IAK young scholars opened windows of inspiration —connecting generations, ideas, and the shared responsibility of nurturing culture in a global age.

This visit coincided with the Beijing International Intangible Cultural Heritage Week,

a celebration of creativity and continuity — where traditions are not relics, but living expressions of human spirit.IAK proudly participated, curating a special exhibition that brought the intangible cultural heritage of Switzerland to China for the very first time.

Through immersive displays and multisensory storytelling, the exhibition invited visitors to experience:the mountain songs of the Alps, the story of Heidi, and the art of healthy breathing that embodies Swiss well-being culture.Within the Beijing exhibition hall, Swiss and Chinese traditions resonated gracefully —blending into a dialogue of beauty, craftsmanship, and universal heritage.

IAK’s presentation was not merely an exhibition, but a reflection on the meaning of heritage in modern life.

It revealed how intangible culture — the memory of human wisdom — continues to inspire beauty, balance, and belonging in the present day.

From the Alps of Switzerland to the capital of China, from ancient craftsmanship to contemporary living, heritage is transcending boundaries, weaving a shared cultural tapestry for humanity.

At IAK, we believe that culture is not only to be preserved — it is to be lived, shared, and continually reimagined.

Through exchange, education, and creation, we let the wisdom of East and West breathe together —turning heritage into a living dialogue of the heart.
